Plowing Ahead Deep Sea Mining Technology
Already completed a very thorough deep sea mining system feasibility study and planning to start a comprehensive basic design for such system, OTL advanced into the deep sea mining technology frontier. While OTL itself is very capable on the design of the Production Support Vessel (PSV) and the Riser/Lifting System, OTL has also deep involvement into the Subsea Mining Robotic Machine design.
The JV between OTL and OTL’s partner on deep sea mining has filed multiple deep sea mining-related patents particularly on the Subsea Mining Robotic Machine. The patents application and eventual approval will protect the technologies developed in the engineering process, and help the application of these technologies into the commercialization of deep sea mining industry.
Platform Optimization Design
L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering Limited (LTHE) has awarded a Purchase Order to OTL to assist LTHE’s optimization effort for a platform to be located in Middle East. OTL will optimize the current jacket design to minimize its weight, and design additional buoyance capability into the jacket in order to lower the jacket installation lifting capability requirement. OTL will also assist the floatover design by LTHE.
Kikeh DTU Extension Verified
OTL submitted all verification reports for the production extension of PTTEP’s Kikeh spar DTU. OTL’s work scopes, through MMC Oil and Gas to PTTEP, is to verify the strength and fatigue of the topside structure and the topside-to-hull connection, as well as the ballasting and initial stability of the platform after the addition of a production module. This work is OTL’s continued involvement of Kikeh DTU since the inauguration of the platform.
FEED of Deep Water Jacket from SK International Completed
Contracted by CNOOC RI, OTL executed the FEED design of the Lufeng 12-3 deep water jacket, and final review by the client has just been completed. The Lufeng 12-3 platform will be operated by Korea’s SK International in 240 m water depth in South China Sea. This is OTL’s another very deep water and very heavy jacket design over the Liuhua 11-1 (330 m water depth), Lufeng 15-1 (286 m water depth) and Lufeng 14-4 (144 m water depth) in the last two years.
Deep Sea Mining System Concept Confirmed
OTL is the main force spearheading the conceptual design of a very deep and complex sea mining system. OTL is also the one propose the current concept. Since there is not an existence of such deep sea mining system in the world, the feasibility and economy of such mining system concept was at question.
With the conceptual design nearly complete, major conclusion of the design reached, that such complex deep sea mining system is feasible, with advanced technologies currently available in various related industries and sectors. OTL has also proven that the concept and the project execution method as proposed by OTL is much more economical than other concepts exist.
OTL is expecting to lead the basic design of the deep sea mining system for commercial production purpose and become the world pioneer in this field.
CPEC Offshore Platform Transportation and Installation Study Reviewed
CPEC has conducted the mid-term review of OTL’s works on the offshore platform transportation and installation study. OTL’s responsibilities include a wide range of scope of works on offshore platforms of different sizes and different locations with different installation methods. OTL has successfully passed the mid-term review with high regard.
OTL Scored High on Annual ISO Audit
Once again OTL has scored high on the annual ISO audit conducted by ABS. OTL has designed and maintained a complete quality system matching ISO 9001 requirement and based on which OTL operates and executes projects, ensuring high quality works to be delivered to the clients with low company operating risk.
Extra Deep Liuhua 11-1 Jacket FEED Completed
CNOOC’s Liuhua 11-1 development include an extra deep water jacket situated in 330 m water depth. This jacket, when installed, will be one of the tallest fixed platforms in the world.
