On the evening of Sunday, May 4th, OffshoreTech business development delegates attended an open house party hosted by Thrustmasters of Texas in anticipation of the annual Offshore Technology Conference. Around three hundred industry representatives were present.

As marine architecture specialists, we are very familiar with Dynamic Positioning concepts and their possible applications, which are made possible by Thrustmasters of Texas's products. Dynamic Positioning provides superior position-keeping in comparison to other methods such as jack-up barges and anchoring. Specifically, DP offers the following advantages:

excellent maneuverability
no anchor handling tugs required
not dependent on waterdepth
relatively quick set-up
not limited by obstructive seabed

OTL is currently a pionner of dynamic positioning floatover analysis and design, but we are looking to use this technology to perform innovative new engineering projects in the future.

As part of the open house event, we were given a tour of the Thrustmaster facilities as well as commentary on new thruster technologies from a member of the company. Besides the tour, we mingled with other party guests and enjoyed live country music paired with a traditional Texas dinner.
